January Update

Just a note to keep you up to date with what is going on in grade 7…

Math:

            We are wrapping up Unit 4: Circles and area.  Our test on the unit will be Tuesday, January 29 when we have completed review and a practice test.   Additional review materials can be found through the Math Makes Sense link at the bottom of this blog.

Our next unit is “Operations with Fractions”.

Language Arts:

We are currently working on a unit called “Step Up”.  We are taking a look at how people “step up” to speak out and take action for things they believe in.  The unit will wrap up in early February with a persuasive writing piece.

Our next unit, which focuses on technology, will include video production.

Social Studies:

            We are continuing with the “Resources” unit.

Health:

            We are now working with the Second STEP program. Students are learning about positive, respectful conflict resolution through role play and class discussion.  Fully Alive will begin within the next few weeks.  (See related post for more details and links.)

Religion:

Unit 3 “We believe in God… the Creator of heaven and earth” is our current unit.  We are exploring the themes

-         Is what I do good enough?

-         That’s not my job! Is it?

-         Why do I need you?

We are also preparing the liturgy for Ash Wednesday.

            Art:

Our unit about “Cubism” is in done, but assignments are still trickling in.  Silhouettes are our most recent project.

            Career Guidance:

In “The Real Game” we are going through the “Reality Check” portion of the program.  This is where students need to reconcile their dreams with the reality or their paychecks.
