Field Trip

The grade sevens will be going to Prairieland Park next Thursday, November 20, to see and participate in a drug and alcohol education presentation.  The presentation is put on by various community sponsors including the police, firefighters, the health region, SLGA, and others, and is meant to support and encourage healthy lifestyle choices among youth.

We will be at Prairieland Park until 11:45, so it would be a good idea to pack a lunch on that day.

Health support

We are fortunate to have our school counselor, Mrs. Troesch joining us to support the health curriculum in our class.  We are focusing on the development of social skills through the use if the Second
Step program.  As this is an area in which Mrs. Troesch is knowledgeable, she has offered to work with us.  So far, she has concentrated on working with the girls in the class, and the boys will have their turn soon, hopefully this week.

Technology: Acceptable Use Policy

St. Dominic has created an acceptable use policy to reflect current practices in technology.  It is intended to provide guidance for students as we move forward in a "connected" society.

While it does include some restrictions, it clarifies and expands the role technology will play in our school.  It is an important piece of our technology plan as we prepare for the roll out of division email for students.

Please read through it.  Students have had the opportunity to read and discuss the document, so they should be able to explain it if necessary.  If you have any questions, please contact me.

I would like to have the signed document returned by next Thursday so that we can continue to move forward with our technology plan.

Thanks!

Looking for library volunteers

I am asking if any parent would like to volunteer in the library from 8:30 to 9:00, checking out books. I would love to offer early morning book sign out to all of our students. It would be great if a handful of parents would sign up, receive training then help out a few times a week. Parents can select days available or help as much or as little as possible. If you are interested please email me at jmeikle@gscs.sk.ca.
Thanks!
Mrs. Meikle

Pre-Registration for Fall 2014/2015

Students from Kindergarten to Gr. 7 have received the Pre-Registration form for the 2014 -2015 school year. If you would prefer to avoid the Sept. 2nd, registration morning, please fill in the form (1 per family). The Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Board of Education has eliminated school fees for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. Pre-Registration deadline is Thursday, June 12th, 2014. If your family will not be returning for the 2014/2015 academic year, please call the office at 659-7290. If you have not received the pre-registration form please stop by the office or visit our website at www.gscs.sk.ca/dom

Sailing & Canoeing at Blackstrap - Tuesday, June 17

We are heading to Blackstrap on Tuesday for canoeing and sailing instruction.

We will need to be prepared for a variety of weather conditions.  Sunscreen and insect repellant are highly recommended.  A change of clothes isn't a bad idea either.  Towel?  Perhaps.

We will be roasting hot dogs for lunch, with two provided per student.  If this isn't enough food, (or perhaps someone is of the opinion that hot dogs are revolting) students are encouraged to bring other food to supplement.  We are reminded, however, that we need to be mindful of garbage in this environment, as we BRING BACK ALL OF OUR GARBAGE WITH US.

We leave the school at 8:50, and will be back by the end of the day.

Last Day of School - June 26

On the last day of school, we are inviting families to join us for a continental breakfast.

There will be an assembly following the breakfast, starting at 9:00.  (Perhaps 8:50 - with the time change this year, it is hard to know...)

After the assembly, the grade 1 to 8 students will be heading to the Martensville Aquatic Centre for a swim day.  Lunch WILL NOT be provided, so a bag lunch or money for the concession will be necessary.  Photos of the concession price board can be seen below.

Progress reports will go home with students at the end of the day.

St. Dominic Feast

In recognition of our school’s patron saint, we will be celebrating the feast day of St. Dominic Savio on Friday, May 30th, by having a mass celebrated by Father Nester Gregoire at St. Dominic School followed by a school-wide pot-luck in each classroom. The mass will begin at 10:00 am in our gym and we invite all parents and community members to come and celebrate with us!

Mrs. Richter's blog

Please note that Mrs. Richter now has a blog set up.  The link to the blog is: http://blog.scs.sk.ca/srichter/ or you can access it through the school's blog.  Please subscribe to the blog if you wish.  The blog will be divided into areas based on grade level.  It will be used to notify of important dates for exams/quizzes and assignments for the older grades.  Information on what we are working on and possible requests for materials/help will be included in the sections for the primary grades.

Ski Trip info

Dear St. Dominic Parents of Grade 5-8

Please send the completed ski forms and payment by Monday March 3rd. We want to fill PA Northern buses with both students and parents. Students not attending the ski trip will have a regular school day on Tuesday March 11th. Many schools have cancelled their ski trips due to low participation this spring. Please encourage your child to try skiing as part of our physical education program and to continue to have skiing as an option in our school.
