Math: We have started the Geometry unit. It is our last one. We will have a cumulative final in the last full week of June.
Social Studies: We will begin the last unit, dealing with power (collective power, government...) next week.
Health: Fully Alive will be over soon, and we will finish the year with an HIV/AIDS unit.
Language Arts: See the "Humour Unit" post.
Art: Most remaining assignments will be completed in conjunction with the Language Arts unit (comics, performance...)
Religion: Or next unit looks at suffering and sacrifice in the context of the Crucifixion.
When I registered for a blog, I was looking for something simple that would convey the idea "I have a message for you". According to several sources, this is 10-44 in police scanner/ten-code. I thought I had struck gold. I have subsequently learned that ten-code above 10-39 is not standardized, and to some people, this code means "possible mental patient". Depending on the day, either connotation might be appropriate.

Humour Unit
We have just started our final unit in Language Arts. It is a fairly busy unit with a number of assignments and a lot of viewing/listening/responding. Because so many of the lessons in this unit will involve a multimedia component, I will do my best to share the materials through the blog in case any students are absent. Some items will be links while others might be downloadable files. I will provide what I legally can, but be aware that any absences will create a challenge for catching up returning students.
There is a "Humour Files" file under the Share Documents link at the bottom of the page.
The unit will include among its assignments: joke telling, writing a fairy tale parody, evaluating and creating comic strips, critical analysis of various aspects of comedy (including ethics) and a culminating performance project. Students will also be completing a response journal for the duration of the unit, keeping a record of a variety of multimedia pieces.
