"Let's talk tobacco" video assignment

Has someone you know been affected by tobacco? Do you have an idea for a great anti-smoking ad? How about a message for the tobacco industry? We want to know what you think about tobacco in a one minute video. It’s your chance to share your thoughts, show off your creativity and win some incredible prizes.

All students will be creating a video in groups of no more than four.  The creation of a video is your health assignment.  Submission to the Canadian Cancer Society’s contest is NOT a requirement of the assignment.

Task:
Create a video NO LONGER THAN one minute with and anti-smoking message.  All videos must adhere to the rules found at http://letstalktobacco.ca/
All tobacco statistics must be factual, accurate and based on Canadian sources.  Bibliographical information must be submitted supporting ALL facts or statistics.

You will receive time in class to write, plan, and film your message.  Videos that are being submitted to the contest will receive extra time for video and sound editing.

Skating at the Oval

Our school will participate in skating at the Speed Skating Oval on January 26th in the afternoon as our In Motion activity for January. Students are required to have proper fitting skates and a CSA approved helmet Hockey or snow board helmets will work, but no bicycle helmets please, to participate in skating at the oval. There are NOT enough school helmets to go around for an event of this size.  This letter is an effort to allow time for parents to borrow skates if required from friends or family for this exciting school trip.
Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided during our stay. Buses will transport our students for this event. Please ensure your child is dressed, ski pants, gloves and headwear, for the outdoor weather on January 26th. In case of inclement weather we would try our best to reschedule this event.

Don't have skates?  Or perhaps you have extra skates kicking around that you cold lend to the cause.  Please let me know.  Our goal is to make sure that everyone can participate in this school-wide event.
If you have any questions please contact me at dgallays@scs.sk.ca

Fully Alive

We will be starting the Fully Alive program shortly.  (The resources will be arriving before the end of January.)  There are a few things that, as parents, you might be interested in.

Letters are to be sent home in anticipation of each unit.  I won’t be wasting the paper, but the letters can be found here.

With the recently renewed program, there are no longer Family Edition books.  All resources are available online.  If this is a problem, please let me know.  It is available in its entirety here.
